Two more residents have qualified for the Nelson City Council's upcoming special election.

Martha Tipton, 42, and Phillip Pettitt, 69, on Wednesday qualified for the Sept. 21 special election to fill the seat of the late Councilman James "Jim" Ingram.

Ms. Tipton is Ingram's daughter.

Qualifying ended Wednesday to fill the seats of Ingram and the late Councilman Willie Pye.

Steven Thacker, 28, qualified earlier this week to run for Ingram's seat. He is the son of Councilwoman Penny Thacker.

Paul Feldman, 63, and Thad Thacker, Jr., 63, qualified earlier this week for Pye's seat.

Voters citywide will decide both at-large, nonpartisan races.

Ingram, whose term ends Dec. 31, 2011, died last month after a 13-month fight against cancer.

Pye, whose term ends Dec. 31, 2013, suffered a fatal heart attack in May after fighting a fire on the lawn of his home.
