Qualifying is slow so far for Cherokee's three cities with upcoming municipal elections, but at least one town has a contested race.

Two candidates have qualified for the Holly Springs City Council Post 1 seat being vacated by incumbent Tommy Sanders, who announced he won't seek re-election.

Kyle Whitaker, 35, an implementation specialist, and Michael Zenchuk, 38, an employee benefits consultant, will vie for the seat in the nonpartisan Nov. 2 election.

Holly Springs City Councilwoman Dee Phillips, 50, a registered nurse, has qualified to run for re-election to her Post 2 seat for another four-year term. She has served on the council for 10 years.

Qualifying continues through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Holly Springs Municipal Building. The fee is $180

In Ball Ground, incumbent Councilwoman Andrenia "Andi" Stoner, who has served for 12 years, is the only candidate who has qualified so far to run on Nov. 2 for another four-year term.

Councilmen Frank Homiller and Lee Prettyman are also up for re-election.

Qualifying ends today, with applications accepted from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Ball Ground City Hall. The qualifying fee is $35.

No one has qualified so far for the Woodstock City Council's Sept. 21 special election to fill the Ward 6 seat vacated by Steve Faris. The term ends Dec. 31, 2011.

Qualifying ends today and is from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Woodstock City Hall Annex. The fee is $270.
