With the completion of the regular season Region 7AAAAA announced its all-region team on Thursday.

Creekview and Sequoyah, the only Cherokee County teams in the region, took home honors in the Coach of the Year category.

Creekview coach Roger Nolan was named Coach of the Year for the girls, while Sequoyah’s Jeremy Adams took the honor for the boys.

Creekview also placed Emma Cook on the first team, while Dee Blakenship was an honorable mention.

Sequoyah’s Maggie Hartman was named second-team all-region, while Emily Ryan, who missed a portion of the season with an injury, was an honorable mention.

Pope’s Andrea Brown was the girls Player of the Year. Also on the first time were: Neena Carter (Sprayberry), Meredith Tarver (Northview), Caliya Robinson (Kell) and Zutorya Cook (Osborne). Second team members were: China Henderson (Kell), Nikira Goings (Osborne), Kierra Henry (Pope) and Hannahkohl Almire (Riverwood).

On the boys side, Sequoyah’s Solomon Ajose made the first team, while his teammate Brandon Ingleton and Creekview’s Matt Leahy made the second team. There were no honorable mentions.

Adams said it means more to him to have his players honored than to be honored himself.

“They do all the work,” he said. “We had hoped to have Solomon get Player of the Year and thought Brandon might make first team, but They were both honored to just be on there. It’s a really tough region and there are a lot of great players for sure.”

Sprayberry’s Armell Potter was named the boys Player of the Year. On the first time were: Grant Bryant (Kell), Jonathan Goodson (Riverwood), Walter Coleg (North Springs) and Andrew Mendel (Pope). Other second team members were Gerry Weaver (Osborne), T.J. Custer (Forsyth Central) and Jordan Slotter (Cambridge).
