Canton residents are in for a jolly good time at the city’s First Friday celebration beginning at 6 p.m. tonight and featuring a block party, street dance, live music and various food and retail vendors.
Main Street Director Ginger Garrard said the city is collecting new toys in the Cannon Park gazebo to give to MUST Ministries.
Garrard said there is no entrance fee for show cars this month as long as each participant brings a new toy for a child.
The event will also feature children’s book author and artist Margie Carroll with her new book, “ZZ and the Daydream” at Yawn’s Books & More.
The Canton Theatre will also conduct an open house from 6 to 9 p.m.
Those in Woodstock can put on their holiday pajamas and head to Christmas on Main, where the whole downtown area will be transformed into a winter wonderland.
“(It’s an) excellent chance to take care of your Christmas shopping at a fun downtown festival,” said Kyle Bennett, Woodstock’s assistant director of tourism and visitors center operations.
Santa Claus will be at the Woodstock Visitors Center at Dean’s Store throughout the event, so bring your camera for free pictures with the jolly old elf.
Leon, the World’s Tallest Elf, will be at FoxTale Book Shoppe visiting the book store and checking his list for names of good girls and boys.
City On A Hill, a Methodist performance group, will present “The Journey to Bethlehem” in the parking lot of Elm Street Cultural Arts Center. The nativity scene will be complete with a donkey and sheep for guests to pet.
In its last show of the year, the iThink Improv Troup will have two teams of improvisational comedians compete in the Comedy Games at 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Many discounts, drawings and giveaways will take place at almost every downtown business, with a $100 Downtown Dollars giveaway at Dean’s Store. For more information, call the Woodstock Visitors Center at Dean’s Store at (770) 924-0406.
