CANTON — The Canton Tourism Independence Day fireworks show will be Sunday night at dusk at the Riverstone Plaza.

Pat Gold, a spokeswoman for Canton Tourism, said Friday that the fireworks were rescheduled to Sunday after bad weather on the Fourth of July caused the show to be postponed. The event will, however, still be entertaining, she said.

“It definitely is a family event,” Gold said. “It’s never too late to celebrate your country. And the fact that Monday is a day off for nearly everybody — for kids in school and for a lot of workers — makes Sunday night fireworks a perfect date to have to postpone the fireworks to.”

Canton Tourism, Inc. is sponsoring the show, and Gold said the fireworks will start at dusk with music at 7 p.m., provided by Ray’s Music Machine.

Gold said there would be a stage in the parking lot of the Riverstone shopping center.

“Ray Deluca, the city’s favorite DJ, is going to be there with his music so people can enjoy patriotic music and fun music, and there will be space in front of the stage where people can dance,” Gold said. “We just want everybody to go have a good family time and, hopefully, collectively say a silent prayer to keep the rain away.”

Gold recommended that guests bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the show.

“There are a lot of restaurants close by,” Gold said. “I think all of the restaurants around the Riverstone Plaza area will be opened. … Some people bring picnics.”

Meanwhile, the Fourth of July fireworks in Woodstock were canceled, and the city council decided not to reschedule the show.
