The county awarded a $999,939 contract to Atlanta-based Georgia Development Partners LLC for trail construction, to be paid for through park bonds.
The Woodstock City Council approved the contract at an earlier December meeting.
Woodstock City Planner Brian Stockton said the $1 million in park bond money will fund 1.5 miles of paved multi-use trails.
“It really is two trails, the downtown spur and Noonday Creek,” Stockton said.
“They will act as one trail and take you from downtown to Highway 92 next to Noonday Creek.”
The Woodstock City Council first approved a master plan for 60 miles of trails in the city in 2007, Stockton said.
The city will receive about $5 million total in park bond money, which Stockton said should pay for 6 to 7 miles of trails.
The $1 million contract includes $75,000 of contingency money and $75,000 for trail signage and furnishings.
Cherokee County Capital Projects Manager Bill Echols said trail construction should begin in early 2013.
