Concerts in store this fall at Falany

WALESKA — The Falany Performing Arts Center at Reinhardt University is tuning up for its fall schedule, which offers an array of musical genres.

Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz Band will return Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. The Atlanta-based band has performed extensively in the South since its founding by Don Erdman in 1990.

Hotlanta has performed internationally in places such as Spain, Germany, Japan, France, Belgium, Denmark and Poland. The New Orleans-style jazz performed by the group will include classics like “Sweet Georgia Brown,” “Royal Garden Blues,” “South” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

During this concert, the guests of the Falany Performing Arts Center will be encouraged to participate in several facets. From making requests to dancing in the aisles, guests will the opportunity to enjoy every aspect of the experience. Requests are taking during intermission with the second half of the performance based solely on the choices of the guests.

On Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m., Sebastian Bäverstam, an award-winning cellist will perform. A winner of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Concerto Competition, Bäverstam performed the Shostakovich Concerto with the BSO at Symphony Hall.

A winner of the 2009 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, he has appeared multiple times on the nationally syndicated radio show “From the Top” and has also been heard on the international radio broadcasts of Voice of America.

Praised by The Strand for his “powerfully expressive style,” Bäverstam has also recently had other concerto performances with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Boston Civic Symphony and Brockton Symphony.

He has toured internationally, including such areas as China, Venezuela and Brazil as a soloist with the New England Conservatory Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for children (12 and younger) and seniors (55 and older).

On Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m., The Peach State Opera will perform Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” at Reinhardt University’s Falany Arts Center.

Written by one of the best composers of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “The Marriage of Figaro” is the story a wedding day full of mistaken identities and a surprise plot twist.

As proven through their Opera Workshop, held during the summer of 2012, the Peach State Opera’s talented artists always produce a wonderful show. Prices for tickets for all performances are $35 for adults, $30 for seniors (55 and older) and children 12 and younger. Additional service charges may apply.
