Band members come from Cherokee and Bartow counties. They formed in 2011, but three of the men were bandmates in the past.

“We are very excited about Saturday because Canton is a hometown for everyone in the band. We are all on cloud nine,” Chastain said. “We will have a lot of family, friends, and supporters coming out to see us. We can’t wait to see everyone who wants to come out and just enjoy some good country music.”
The band describes themselves as “an exciting, high energy, and entertaining country music band” that blends “the oldies, but goodies, with today’s modern country.” Stone Cold Country was formed in 2011, with three of the members being bandmates in the past. Joey explained, “In 1983 we formed a band called ‘Cherokee.’ Joey, Ronald, and Russell were three of the originals from the band.”
The band was primarily based out of the city of Canton, and had some minor success with their original music.
“In 1990, I hung it up and had to grow up and go to work, and everybody kind of went their own separate way,” Chastain said. “In some way, shape or form, we all continued to keep music in our life.”
More than 20 years later, Chastain and his wife moved back to North Georgia after doing some solo work down in Savannah.
“When I moved back up here, Russell and I started getting together and messing around. One thing led to another, and someone asked us to do a benefit event,” Chastain said.
After the three ex-members of the Cherokee band began to reunite, some new talent was added to the trio.
“Paul met Ronald in a band called ‘Skint Lizard,’ while Rick and Russell played a few years together in a band as well,” said Chastain.
According to Chastain, the band has, “stayed pretty busy around the Canton area and has begun to stretch out.”
From word of mouth to local shows, the popularity of the local band has started to reach new limits.
“We did an interview with a radio show back in May and that kind of helped us out. We’ve gotten some airplay in a radio station in Rome and that has been pretty successful for us,” Chastain said about the band’s growing status.
“We’re just humble country boys that want to play good country music that country folks want to hear,” he said. “We just hope that somewhere along the way, our music will make someone’s day a little brighter.”
