CANTON — The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is still looking for a second suspect in a late April shooting outside a home in northern Canton.

Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, said Tuesday that Brian Arno, 22, of Canton, is wanted in connection to a shooting on the 100 block of Pine Grove Drive on April 20.

Baker said detectives believe he is still in the Canton area.

Arno is wanted in the shooting which took place outside the northern Canton home of Darrell Hart, 27, where Hart, Arno and the other suspect in the shooting, Jimmie Kirkpatrick, 20, also of Canton, had been in a fight that evening, Baker said.

During the fight, shots were fired. “Witnesses and investigators believe that it was Arno and Kirkpatrick,” Baker said.

No one was injured by the shots, Baker said.

Kirkpatrick was arrested May 15 and charged with a probation violation, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and simple battery, Baker said. He remains in the Cherokee County Jail without bond, Baker said.

Hart was also arrested May 13 and charged in the fight and posted $680 bond the same day and was released, Baker said.

“(Hart’s) charges are not as severe as the other suspects, because he did not possess a firearm,” Baker said.

On the police report, the incident is listed as being a gang-related incident, but Baker said it is still unclear whether it was or not.

“It is suspected that Kirkpatrick and Arno have affiliations with the Bloods,” Baker said. “But it is unknown if this was gang activity or just simply a violent incident.”

Baker said they have no information that Hart has any gang affiliation.

Anyone with information on Arno’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office at (770) 928-0239.
