Preston Gibney “Pete” Evans, Jr., 56, passed away unexpectedly on January 29th. Formerly of Albertville, Alabama, Pete lived in Canton for 23 years. He retired from World Financial Group in 2012 as Director of Multimedia and Video at WFG’s Corporate Headquarters in Johns Creek, Ga. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013, 12 noon at Darby Funeral Home, 480 East Main St, Canton, GA 30114. The family will receive friends from 11-12 on Saturday at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Mitchell Evans; son, PFC Preston Gibney Evans III (Joint Base Lewis -McChord, Washington); sisters, Holleigh Evans Taylor (Robert) and Mary Beth Evans; father- and mother-in-law, Bobby and Lois Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Karen Weddle and Haley Sallee (Brad); brothers-in-law, Robert Mitchell and Mark Mitchell (Page); and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Preston G. Evans, Sr., and Phyllis Shively Evans.
