Attorneys for convicted killer Craig Heidt were expected to tell justices Monday afternoon that he deserves a new trial because authorities ignored a shotgun that may have provided evidence pointing to another killer.
The trial judge in February ruled Heidt failed to show prosecutors “willfully or inadvertently” hid evidence. The gun belonged to Heidt’s slain brother. Prosecutors insist it wasn’t used in the slayings.
Heidt was sentenced to life in prison in 2010 for the slayings of his father, real estate developer Philip Heidt, and brother, Carey Heidt. Prosecutors say Craig Heidt was sleeping with his brother’s wife.
