Hayden Hall led a record-setting night for the Grizzlies’ offense, completing eight passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns. Receiver Hunter Udall had a huge night of his own, hauling in five passes for 267 yards and two scores.
According to the Georgia High School Football Historians Assocation, Udall’s total of 267 is the seventh-best tally in state history.
Running back Chandler Wold, the younger brother of former Creekview quarterback Collins Wold, also had his share of highlights. Not only did he run for 148 yards and two touchdowns, but he completed a pair of pass attempts for 154 yards and another score.
The win moved Creekview (5-1, 2-0) into a tie for with Forsyth Central for the early subregion lead.
“Offensively, we told the boys that (Northview was) a good offensive team, and we told them if they scored we were going to answer,” Creekview coach Al Morrell. “Hayden, our quarterback, had an outstanding night, Chandler Wold broke a few plays, and I can’t remember half of what happened, but we came out on top.”
In a wild first 12 minutes of action, a young Northview team gave Creekview its best shot early by displaying a big-play offense.
Running back Terrence Upshaw scored on his first two carries of scrimmage — from 11 and 80 yards out — and quarterback D.J. Pearson connected with Isaac Hart for a 75-yard touchdown to give Northview (1-5, 1-1) three first-quarter touchdowns.
But Hall and the Grizzlies’ offense matched the Titans step-for-step.
The senior hit Udall for scores of 88 and 30 yards on Creekview’s first two possessions, and he dropped a beautifully thrown ball into Will Kirby’s hands for a 49-yard score to end the first quarter with a 21-all tie.
Joey Noll returned a punt 50 yards for a score less than a minute into the second quarter, and with a lead in hand, the Creekview defense got its legs under it from there, holding Northview to just seven points for the next 30 minutes of play.
While the Titans’ offense began to sputter, the Grizzlies kept their first-quarter momentum rolling.
Up 28-21, Wold scampered in from 28 yards out to extend the lead to 14, and he then Wold found Kirby on a 70-yard halfback pass to give Creekview a 42-21 edge at intermission.
Kirby made the most out of his only two receptions, totaling 154 yards and two touchdowns.
Northview cut the lead to 14 on a 3-yard Pearson run, but Creekview pulled away for good when Hall threw his fourth touchdown of the game, to Chase Callahan late in the third quarter, and Wold added a 38-yard touchdown run in the fourth.
Northview added two late scores to bring the game to its 56-42 final.
Creekview finished the night with 602 yards of total offense, besting Northview’s 536 yards.
The Titans’ Pearson was 27-of-43 for 367 yards and three touchdowns. Upshaw ran for 166 yards on 17 carries, and Zach Sullivan caught 11 passes for 122 yards.
Creekview will host the first-year varsity program of Cambridge next Friday, beginning a stretch of games — against teams with a combined 2-16 record — that could bring the Grizzlies a subregion title. They close out with Forsyth Central and North Springs before facing a region play-in game against a team from the opposing subregion.
