On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to express condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of longtime Cherokee County attorney David L. Cannon Sr. on his recent and untimely passing.
Mr. Cannon’s exemplary career as a criminal defense and family law attorney spanned three decades and was highlighted by his role in developing the indigent defense system for Cherokee County, providing counsel for those who cannot afford their own lawyer.
He also represented the Ninth Judicial Administrative District on the Georgia Indigent Defense Council and served as Municipal Court judge for Holly Springs. He was a leader among his peers, having served as president of the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit Bar Association.
David Sr. lived to see his son, David Cannon Jr., elected as judge on the Cherokee County Superior Court, a moment that no doubt made him very proud. It is comforting to know the Cannon legacy will live on in Cherokee County through Judge David Cannon Jr.’s service.
All Georgia lawyers can be inspired by our David Cannon Sr.’s dedication and career-long efforts to promote the cause of justice, uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of all citizens. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Robin Frazer Clark
President
State Bar of Georgia
