Mr. Edgar “Nub” McCard, age 99 of Ball Ground, Georgia passed away on the morning of May 24, 2013 with his family by his side. Mr. McCard was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Ella McCard, wife Billie Jo Sanford McCard, son Bill McCard and son in law Bryan Mothershed. Survivors include his daughter Gaye Mothershed of Waleska, daughter and son in law Edie and Matt Burgess of Ball Ground, daughter in law, Brenda McCard of Canton, sisters in law, Frankie Sanford McCulloch of Cartersville and Louise McCard of Ball Ground. Mr. McCard is survived by his grandchildren, Abigail Burgess, Miles Burgess, Connie and Larry Collett, Stacy and Tommy Pritchett, Susan and Glenn Dozier, Travis and Kim Wilson and Jerry and Amanda Lockaby. He is survived by his great-grandchildren Madison Lockaby, Emily Lockaby, Haley Owen, Jennifer Townsend, Tyler Dozier, Morgan Dozier, Ashlee Dozier, Sheena Collett and Lindsey Collett. He is survived by several special nieces and nephews. Mr. McCard known to his friends as, “Nub” started working for Star Lumber Company as a young boy, where he lost his hand in a saw milling accident and gained the nickname “Nub”. He then learned the trade of custom cabinet making from the Star Cabinet Shop in Atlanta, Georgia. He later established, McCard Cabinet Shop in Ball Ground, Georgia, where his son Bill worked by his side to establish one of the most reputable cabinet shops in North Georgia. Mr. McCard was a skilled craftsman who will be remembered for his eye for detail, professionalism and his goal for perfection in all aspects of his life. Those that knew him well will remember him for his quick wit, sense of humor, kindness and generosity. Mr. McCard was a Mason. He received his 50 year apron with great honor. Darby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangement. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 24, 2013 from 6:00-9:00 in the evening and on Saturday, May 25, 2013 from 10:00-2:00. The funeral service will follow in the chapel of the Darby Funeral Home at 3:00 pm, with the Rev. Horace Richards officiating. Interment will be immediately following at Cherokee Memorial Park.
