The body of Jay Gentry, of Woodstock, was recovered by police in his car off Turner Hill Road on Thursday afternoon, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Baker said the cause of death is unknown, but “no apparent signs of foul play” were present at the scene.
“We don’t want to speculate,” Baker said. “There is no obvious cause of death, and that will remain unknown until an autopsy is complete.”
Gentry was reported missing to the Woodstock Police Department just before 10 p.m. Sunday after being last seen at his home a few hours earlier. He was said to have been driving a 2011 Honda Element.
On Thursday, a Georgia State Patrol helicopter spotted his vehicle from the air and contacted the Woodstock Police Department, who in turn contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s Office investigators are conducting an investigation into his death.
Gentry’s body is being sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for the autopsy, Baker said.
