Get your groove on this weekend. Go to the Earl Smith Strand Theatre on the historic downtown Marietta Square for The Motown Sound, a 90-minute musical variety show that will take audiences back to the 1960’s Motown era.

The show features the fashions and sounds of stars such as Stevie Wonder, Martha & the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, and Gladys Knight & The Pips. Enjoy soulful melodies everyone will remember such as “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours” “Heaven Help Us All,” “What Becomes of the Broken Hearted” and “I Want You Back.”

The Motown show is a yearly staple in the community.

“This will be our third year to produce a Motown show,” Executive Director Earl Reece said. “After our first production, we knew that everyone agreed with us that Motown music is truly universal and the music of America. It started in 1957 with the talented Berry Gordy, and the music is still loved and enjoyed today.

“The week of July 4 is the perfect time to celebrate our country and the music that our country loves. The Motown Sound is 90 minutes of non-stop energy, excitement, and fun. It is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser.

“I sincerely believe this is the most talented cast we have ever assembled at the Strand. Motown music is memorable and has survived the test of time, and The Motown Sound promises to be one of our best,” said Reece, who directs the show with Assistant Director Catherine Rhodes.

Tickets are $25 and seating is assigned. The Motown Sound runs today and Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 3 p.m., July 12 and 13 at 8 p.m., and July 14 at 3 p.m.
