Rev. Leon Pettit, age 73, of Ellijay died Wednesday February 20, 2013. Rev. Pettit was born on February 26, 1939 in Cherokee County. He is the son of the late Paul Pettit and Leona Weaver Pettit. He was a retired taxidermist and a US Army Veteran. Rev Pettit became an Ordained Baptist Minister in 1981 and over the years pastored many Churches in Cherokee County and in Gilmer County. He was a member of the Turniptown Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 50 Years, Loretta Cain Pettit of the home; daughter & son-in-law, Tabra & Terry Word, Canton; son & daughter-in-law, Dirk & Peggy Pettit, Ellijay; grandchildren, Garrett Pettit & Joseph & Alicia Worley; brother, Lamar Pettit, Piedmont, AL. Funeral services will be held Saturday February 23, 2013 at 11am from the Turniptown Baptist Church with Rev. Monroe Gunter, Rev. Larry Waddell, Rev. Russell Burt & Rev. Michael Cantrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Turniptown Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday February 22nd from 4pm until 9pm at the Bernhardt Funeral Home.
