WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Police Foundation is cooking up a plan to raise money for their cause.

The group is hosting the second annual charity Woodstock’s Great American Chili Cook-Off on Nov. 3.

The event will be held in conjunction with the Woodstock Art and Wine Festival at The Park at City Center in downtown Woodstock.

In its fourth year, the festival offers free admission and features more than 50 visual artists, live music, an interactive area with bounce houses also sponsored by the Woodstock Police Foundation and a wine-tasting area.

“We are excited about expanding Woodstock’s Great American Chili Cook-Off after the success of our 2011 event. The great thing about this event is that people have a good time and all proceeds benefit the Woodstock Police Foundation,” said John Bevilaqua, president of the group.

The festival itself will run from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Nov. 3, with a free evening movie, and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on

Nov. 4.

The Chili Cook-Off will be from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the first day of the festival.

It will feature two competitive divisions: an open division and a commercial division.

The open division will be open to any teams, organizations or individuals and will be judged by executive chefs from local restaurants.

The prizes for the best chili in Woodstock have been increased to almost $3,000 with a first place cash prize of $1,500, $750 for second place and $500 for third place due to corporate and individual charitable donors, Bevilaqua said.

Teams will be required to prepare five gallons of chili and the entry charitable donation for the open division is $100.

The open division competitors will not compete against the commercial division. The open division contestants will compete for the cash prizes.

The commercial division will feature local restaurants and will be judged by the Woodstock Police Foundation and the public.

Teams will be required to prepare five gallons of chili and the entry charitable donation is $200 for the commercial division.

The commercial division contestants will compete for the Woodstock People’s Choice Award where the top winners will be presented with a trophy.

Participants are required to preregister for this event by submitting a registration form along with their charitable donation.
