Prep Roundup: Cherokee pulls away for victory

After tying Woodstock at 2-all in the third inning, Cherokee pulled away from its county rival and won 6-2 on Wednesday.

Austin Pharr led the Warriors at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Logan Hauback went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, while Macen Bailey had a double.

Mason Ward pitched a complete game with six strikeouts.

Cherokee (6-10, 1-3 Region 5AAAAAA) will host Roswell today, weather permitting.


Creekview 4, River Ridge 1:
Kari Fowler and Alexis Pache didn’t surrender a point in their doubles match as the Lady Grizzlies won on senior night.

Also winning were Emily Fraysier, Lauren Pero and the doubles team of Hannah Rowland and Sloan Anderson.

River Ridge’s Hannah Walker defeated Victoria Bowman 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Creekview (9-5, 4-1 Region 7AAAAA) closed its regular season and will now await the region tournament after spring break.


Woodstock 2, Walker 2:
Rain prevented the non-region match from being finished, with No. 1 doubles ending in a deadlock.

After splitting the first two sets 6-3, 3-6, the Wolverines’ No. 1 doubles team of Luke Mixon and Spencer Hren had matched Walker’s Will Chocallo and Daniel Sosnovsky at 4-all when play was called.

Eric Hollar and Evan Zaner won singles points for Woodstock. Hollar rallied in three sets for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 win, while Zaner allowed just one game in a straight-set win.

After taking time off for spring break,

Woodstock (10-6-1) will resume the Region 5AAAAAA tournament April 16 at Milton.
