For those who love Southern cooking, FoxTale Book Shoppe in Woodstock is hosting a book launch party for “Mastering the Art of Southern Cooking“ with authors Nathalie Dupree and Cynthia Graubart on Saturday at noon.

The launch party will feature a sampling from the duo’s most comprehensive ever cookbook as well as a book-signing. The event is free and the book will be on sale for the signing.

“We are so happy to be coming to Woodstock together on Saturday for our signing,” Gruabart said.

She also shared their recipe for fig and pecan tapenade with goat cheese, which she said makes a wonderful appetizer.

In the cookbook, Dupree and Graubart reveal the essence of food that delights, entices and satisfies, celebrating the “Mother Cuisine” of American cooking, with more than 750 recipes and 650 variations.

Based on years of research, beginning with their first collaboration in 1985 for the PBS television series “New Southern Cooking,” the authors embrace the cookbooks and recipes of the past, enhancing them with the foods and conveniences of today.

The book makes cooking a perfect piecrust, a heavenly biscuit, mouthwatering vegetables, or crispy fried chicken attainable for any home cook. The recipes and directions are easily accessible to kitchen novices as well as seasoned cooks.

Dupree and Graubart make it easy to learn the techniques for creating the South’s fabulous cuisine.

From basics such as cleaning vegetables and scrubbing a country ham, to show-off skills like making a souffle and turning out the perfect biscuit, all are explained with photos and stories. Traditional Southern recipes and ingredients are also given modern twists to make them relevant for today’s healthy lifestyle.

Dupree is well-known throughout the South and is the author of 12 cookbooks, including two James Beard Award winners: “Nathalie Dupree’s Southern Memories” and “Nathalie Dupree’s Comfortable Entertaining.”

Her latest books include “Shrimp and Grits and Southern Biscuits.” She has hosted more than 300 television shows and specials that have shown nationally on PBS, The Learning Channel, and The Food Network. She lives in Charleston, S.C.

Graubart is an author and former television producer whose culinary television production career includes Nathalie Dupree’s New Southern Cooking. She is also the co-author of “The One-Armed Cook,” as well as the co-author of “Southern Biscuits.” She lives in Atlanta.
