The Cherokee County middle school student charged for bringing a gun and ammunition to school is now accused of pointing it at someone and making threats.

The Cherokee County School District on Thursday reported that the Dean Rusk Middle School student has been charged with two more counts: terroristic threats and acts and pointing a pistol at another.

The student, a 12-year-old seventh-grader, already had been charged with felony possession of a gun on school property for the incident on Tuesday.

School officials on Thursday said they could not disclose any details about what allegedly happened to lead to the new charges.

The additional charges were filed after interviews with more students, officials said.

Another letter was sent home on Thursday to parents by Principal Dr. Adrian Thomason, who also sent one on Tuesday. The new letter describes the witnesses who gave the additional information as "brave students."

The seventh-grader, whose name has not been released, because he is a juvenile, was arrested after bringing an unloaded .22-caliber handgun and ammunition to school.

According to the incident report released on Wednesday, the .22-caliber Derringer gun and ammunition were discovered in the student's locker.

The student on Tuesday morning showed the weapon in his locker to a female classmate, who then reported it to school administrators.

School officials initially said the student had made no threats of violence and had said he brought the gun to school to sell.
