A 55-year-old man from Waleska was killed and two of his family members injured on Sunday when the truck he was driving left the roadway in a curve and struck a tree, patrol officers said.
The victim, Hector Diaz, was driving his 2011 Ford DRW Super Duty pickup truck when it left the roadway, struck a tree, rolled over and came to rest on its top, the Georgia State Patrol said.
Diaz was not wearing a seatbelt when he wrecked, troopers said.
“There may have been a medical issue involved,” a spokesperson said. Speeding was not believed to be a factor.
The accident happened off of Darby Road around noon.
Diaz’s daughter, Ashley Nicole Deegan, 28, of Waleska, was airlifted from the scene, and her infant son, 9-month-old Adam Campbell, was transported to an area hospital, according to the GSP.
Deegan was wearing a seatbelt and her baby was in a child restraint system when the wreck happened. Both were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta for treatment, according to the GSP.
The Georgia State Patrol in Jasper is investigating the wreck, according to officials.
