Mr. Charlie “Hubert” Wilkie, 89, of Ball Ground, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014 at Northside Hospital Cherokee. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00pm on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Hightower Baptist Church with Rev. Gerral Richards, Rev. Ronnie McCormick and Rev. Larry Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6:00pm until 10:00pm. Mr. Wilkie will lie-in-state at the church on Sunday from2:00pm until 3:00pm. Mr. Wilkie was a World War II Navy Veteran, Seaman First Class. He was a Deacon and member of Hightower Baptist Church and previously a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at West Merritts Baptist Church. Hubert retired from Atlantic Steel and was a member of the United Steel Workers of America. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Mattie Lou Wilkie; son-in-law, Richard Harber; two brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Coriene Ray Wilkie of Ball Ground; daughters, Wanda Harber of Lithia Springs and Rebecca (Charles, Jr.) BoGray of Porter Ranch, California; grandchildren, Aria BoGray, Charlize “Piper” BoGray and Charles, III “Catcher” BoGray ; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
