As a member of the scout team for the University of Georgia's football team, Cameron Allen is hoping to find a place on the Bulldogs' roster next season.

The former Woodstock High School standout took a big step towards that goal when he was selected as the top special teams player for UGA's scout team.

Allen was presented with his award at Georgia's year-ending banquet last month.

It was a big honor for Allen, a 6-foot-1, 209-pound redshirt freshman who just completed his second year on the Georgia scout team.

"I worked hard all year for it, and I hope it will help me get on the field next year," Allen said.

Allen enjoyed a successful career as a linebacker at Woodstock, where he was a three-year letterman from 2005-07 and was an all-county performer as a junior and a senior.

He redshirted after arriving as a walk-on at Georgia in 2008 and was immediately put on the scout team, which plays the role of Georgia's upcoming opponent in practice.

For Allen, his stint on the scout team has been an educational experience.

"It has helped me improve tremendously," Allen said. "I am going against some of the best athletes in the nation, and it has been a big learning process for me. It has built me up and helped me get ready to play on the next level."

As a result of his hard work and fast development, Allen earned Georgia's weekly scout team award three times and got a spot on the Sanford Stadium sideline in uniform for games against Arizona State, LSU and South Carolina.

"To run out of the tunnel before 93,000 fans is an unbelievable feeling," Allen said.

Allen has also adjusted well to the college level in the classroom, having been named to the Director's Honor Roll every semester during his two years there.

Allen said he has enjoyed his college experience so far at Georgia.

"I love the atmosphere around here," Allen said. "I love the city of Athens. I've got to meet many people and make so many connections. There are so many opportunities here, and I feel so fortunate to be here."

Allen said he is confident that his award will help him earn a spot on the regular roster at Georgia as a special teams player and fullback, but acknowledged that he still has some work to do.

"Right now, it comes down to spring practice," Allen said. "I've got to work hard in the offseason. It's all about building up my body. How well I do in spring practice will determine whether I make it on the roster or not. I hope to be on the field next year."
