Woodstock resident Monica McFarlan experienced congestive heart failure and cardiomyopathy last year. Doctors determined her only option was a mechanical pump that keeps her heart functioning properly. McFarlan and her close friends are planning a fundraising gala on Feb. 18 to help offset the huge costs for doctors visits and medication. McFarlan sits with the small battery-operated pump in a bag next to her.
