EDITOR'S NOTE: Below is a selection of responses shared by readers of CherokeeTribune.com in reaction to recent Tribune stories ...

City OKs leveling complex for park...

Resi wrote - What a waste of money?

Billy Bob Thorn wrote - We take the money when it's given to us...

Excited about park wrote - As a dog owner who lives near this eyesore, I am very thrilled to see that my pup will have a place to run and play other than our backyard. Dog parks are a great asset to any small city.

Big banks' swipe fees hurt small businesses

No hope wrote - I thought Rep. Sean Jerguson was against more government regulation. In this column, he calls for government to step in on behalf of his gun shop to keep another private business from making "egregious profits." Last I checked, 2 percent is not usually considered to be "egregious" when it comes to profit. One wonders if his gun shop would be open to government regulating how much profit he can make on his sales and services.

Ethics? wrote - Speaking of egregious, would it be considered egregious for the author of this column to take over $2,100 in lobbyist dinners and trips over the first three months of 2011? He did. By comparison Reps. Charlice Byrd and Calvin Hill accepted a total of less than $1,000 combined during the same period. Maybe the banks he is targeting need to take Rep. Jerguson on a hunting trip to change his perspective. Seems to work for other groups.

Are public uproars good for the community?...

Oh please wrote - If you really believe tenure is granted "with little or no oversight," then you know very little about the topic. Let me also point out another misconception. Tenure does not "ensure lifetime employment." It's simply protection against being fired without just cause.

Progressive Peach wrote - Wait a minute? The columnist who wrote a month ago decrying the public uproar over Wisconsin's governor working as a tool of the Koch Brothers to take away worker's rights suddenly thinks public outcries are a good thing? Thanks, Donald, for promptly exemplifying the hypocrisy of the conservative movement.

Sunday sales: Legislature did right thing; rest is up to us...

Billy Sunday wrote - If everyone moved away who disagreed with the laws or customs of their communities, there would be no community. Even our most alcoholic citizens are smart enough to purchase their liquor by Saturday night if they want to drink on Sunday. Sunday sales will only increase alcohol-related incidents and accidents such as DUIs and domestic violence and alcoholism. It's a no-win, and even the liquor store owners are against this because they don't want to work on Sunday.

Third fire station a hot issue for city...

Afd Duncan wrote - How about the City of Canton actually staff all their equipment first! They have two ladder trucks that just sit in a fire station. Or how about they actually go out and do hydrants? I have lived in my subdivision for three years and never once have they come to check them. The county fire department does theirs twice a year, why not Canton? The best thing that could happen would be if the county would absorb the city's fire department!

Rep. Price calls recent budget agreement 'historic'...

Tito V wrote - I lost my job, and I had to cut 50 percent. These clowns in the House and Senate cannot do a 1 percent.
