Brandon Wilson has been named managing editor of the Cherokee Tribune, taking over the reins from long-time editor Barbara P. Jacoby, who has taken the position of director of public information, partnerships and communications for the Cherokee County School District.

Wilson studied communications at Georgia State University before transferring to Northern Arizona University, where he graduated with his bachelor’s in print journalism. After working as a reporter for newspapers in Arizona, he began his employment with Times-Journal Inc., which publishes the Cherokee Tribune, Marietta Daily Journal and Neighbor Newspapers. He was previously assistant news editor at the Marietta Daily Journal.

“Brandon has been an asset to our organization for a number of years, and we are excited to see him step into this role as managing editor of the Cherokee Tribune,” said Otis Brumby III, general manager of Times-Journal Inc. “We have the utmost confidence in his ability to lead our newsroom and continue delivering quality and informative local news content to the residents of Cherokee County.”

Wilson said he is ready to open a new chapter in his life.

“My main focus has been providing fair and accurate news for readers, and I will maintain that primary objective here in Cherokee,” he said, “I look forward to the job ahead and I am excited about becoming part of this community. I welcome all feedback. I know Barbara will be sorely missed. Everyone keeps telling me, ‘you’ve got big shoes to fill.’ I will work hard to do so.”

Wilson, his wife and 6-month-old daughter live north of Acworth near the Cherokee/Bartow county line.

I was shocked & appalled today when I visited the VA cemetery and there were no flags on the graves of our veterans. Is there not a group in Cherokee County that places flags on Veterans & Memorial Day to honor our vets? What can I do to ensure this NEVER happens again?
