ATLANTA — The Fulton County Sheriff’s office says it’s investigating an incident at the county jail.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan said Saturday an investigation is under way after an incident was reported at the Fulton County Jail near downtown Atlanta. Flanagan says in an email that command staff members are arriving at the jail to determine the next move.

Flanagan could not immediately release further details about the investigation.

The incident took place amid increased scrutiny of the jail.

Federal prosecutors charged four Fulton County jailers in June with smuggling drugs and cellphones into the facility. That indictment was made public a week after an inmate was wounded by a bullet fired from a tiny gun found in the building.
