Cherokee would get Gingrey with new district map

ATLANTA — A proposed map to redraw Georgia congressional districts introduced in the Georgia House of Representatives shows Cherokee County getting a new representative.

The proposed map shows District 11, held by Republican Rep. Phil Gingrey of Marietta, will include Bartow, Cherokee, northwest and central Cobb Counties.

Cherokee currently sits in District 6, held by Rep. Tom Price of Roswell. Proposed lines has District 6 moving into north Fulton, northeast Cobb and northern DeKalb counties.

The proposed map shows a the new congressional seat, named as District 9, taking the eastern half of Pickens, northern Forsyth, all of Gilmer and Fannin counties and the remaining northeastern counties in the state.

The Georgia General Assembly has to approve the maps during its special session, which could come as early as the end of the week.
