Mr. Herbert O. “Mac” McFarland, Jr., 66, of Canton passed away on Monday, September 26, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011 from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Billy Moss officiating. Interment will follow at Macedonia Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday all day at the funeral home. Mac was an avid reader and enjoyed computers. He also enjoyed taking trips to the beach. Survivors include his goddaughter, Emma Lovell; cousins, Tracy Fuller and Melissa Elzey; and other loving cousins, family members and friends also survive. Mac and I went through a lot of good times and a lot of sad times together. We had created a bond between us that I will never forget. He would tell me a lot of the stories of being in Vietnam and he sure earned the purple heart and other medals he received. I Thank God for the opportunity to have and to know such a wonderful cousin as "Mac". Like I always told you "Know that I love you."

Mac was a veteran of the Vietnam war and always the loving son. In his last years he acted with extraordinary generosity and loving kind soul. He was a knight in shining armor to those closest to him. This gentleman is going to be genuinely missed. Rest in peace my friend.
