GIBBON, Neb. (AP) _ A Denver-bound bus rammed into an overturned semitrailer on Interstate 80 in south-central Nebraska early Thursday morning, injuring more than 30 people aboard, officials said.

Nebraska State Patrol spokesman Craig Schoneberg said the semitrailer overturned about 2 a.m. and was blocking westbound lanes when the bus ran into it. He said the accident occurred about two miles east of the Gibbon exit.

Another semitrailer clipped the overturned trailer and ended up in a ditch, and the bus ran into the interstate median.

No fatalities have been reported. Schoneberg said 24 people, including the driver, were taken to area hospitals. Gibbon is about 150 miles west of Omaha.

Calls to the bus operator, Burlington Trailways, were referred to the American Bus Association, whose spokesman Dan Ronan said 33 people on the bus were hurt. The driver and one passenger were critically injured, Ronan said. He didn’t know how many people were on the bus but said it could carry 55 passengers.

He said the driver has had her commercial license for nearly 10 years, including seven years driving for Burlington Trailways, based in West Burlington, Iowa.

The bus left Omaha at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday and was scheduled to arrive in Denver at 7:55 a.m. the following day.

The accident closed the I-80 for several hours, but it has been since reopened, Schoneberg said.
