7/12/1935–9/23/2011 David John White 76, known to his friends as “Merlin”, passed on September 23, 2011 after a brief illness. Merlin was born in 1935 in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England. As a young man, he distinguished himself in the Boy Scouts, earning the rank of King Scout, the British equivalent to the Eagle Scout award, which was presented to him by the Queen Mother. He served in the British armed forces, Royal Cavalry, spending part of that time near Hanover, Germany. He traveled extensively, including stints in North Africa, Burma, and Italy and moved to Atlanta from the Bahamas in the mid 1970s where he worked as Regional Manager for Sears. Merlin inspired many with his wisdom and his views, both spiritual and social. Lake Merlin, a small wildlife sanctuary in North Georgia, was named in his honor. In 2005, he left his house near Midtown Atlanta to retire in the forests of the North Georgia Mountains. He is survived by his Goddaughter, Nancy Zak and many friends who will dearly miss him. Sosebee Funeral Home Canton, GA honored to serve the family. sosebeefuneralhome.com
