We are concerned about the mega liquor store seeking a business license to basically monopolize the Hickory Flat shopping center at the crossroads of Hickory Flat Highway and E. Cherokee Road, located behind the KFC/Taco Bell.
We understand it may be the largest in Cherokee County.
A liquor store in proximity to Hickory Flat Elementary, Dean Rusk Middle School, and Sequoyah High will impact our community by contributing to underage drinking due to ease of accessibility, increase in DUI violations and other alcohol related offenses, such as spousal and child abuse, car accidents, property damage, public intoxication, and increase in litter. Do we need another liquor store when Uncle Jack’s is less than two miles from the Hickory Flat crossroads? If approved, will underage teenagers sneaking beer and hiding it from their parents by dumping their empties along the roadside in our county, graduate to Jack Daniel’s because they’ll find someone of age who will walk to the convenient mega liquor store location and peddle it to them?
The vote of the Holly Springs City Council on Nov. 21 will determine their commitment to maintaining Holly Springs and the Hickory Flat community as family friendly or inviting crime into our area.
