Beech Island man pleads guilty in 2 deaths

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) _ A South Carolina man serving a life prison term in Georgia has pleaded guilty to killing two women in Aiken County.

Fifty-six-year-old Franklin Wright of Beech island pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and two counts of arson for the August 2010, deaths of the women.

Wright was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Seventy-five-year-old Yana Schenker’s body was found in her burning home about an hour before the body was 38-year-old Shalamar Byrd was found engulfed in flames near Clearwater.

Prosecutors say the women died before the fires were set.

Wright had been sentenced in January to life in prison for the beating and robbery of an Augusta, Ga., convenience store owner.
