Sheriff’s Capt. Eric Pozen tells The Athens Banner-Herald the deputy has been suspended without pay for three days and must undergo remedial training.
A spokesman for Sheriff Ira Edwards said at the time that a serious lapse in security allowed the 50-year-old man into a bond hearing room in the jail in early January.
Witnesses told sheriff’s officials they became concerned when the man began making bizarre statements.
Sheriff’s officials say he ranted about “the Republican Party one percent,” claimed he worked for President Obama and tried to arrest a deputy.
