CANTON — A 30-year-old woman was killed Thursday in a three-car wreck that backed up traffic, according to Canton Police.

The accident occurred about 3 p.m. on the Marietta Highway Bridge at exit 14 of Interstate 575 between Holly Springs and south Canton.

Cherokee Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Tim Cavender said the female driver of a red Honda, one of three cars involved in the accident, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The name of the victim had not yet been released.

Those in the two other vehicles involved in the accident did not appear to be seriously injured.

“The 33-year-old female driver of a black Chevrolet truck and a 53-year-old female passenger in the front seat had minor injuries,” Cavender said.

Three children in the back seat, a 12-year-old boy and two girls, ages 7 and 4, suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Cavender said. The children were taken by ambulance to Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.

Cavender said a 68-year-old male driver of a white Buick had cuts to his head and was transported to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta in stable condition.

Both lanes of Marietta Highway near I-575 were blocked until emergency responders cleared the wreck. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Canton Police Department.

Canton Police spokeswoman Sgt. Stacy Bailey said the names of those involved in the wreck were not yet available.
