Today I find myself in a position to need your forgiveness. It seems that, in a recent one of these missives, I was wrong.
I was of the opinion that the recent brouhaha regarding Rush Limbaugh and the woman he treated disrespectfully, that Limbaugh had opened himself up to a sander suit because she was a private citizen and not a public person.
Apparently here is a Supreme Court Decision that covers it. (For the record it is New York Times v. Sullivan) The court decided that anyone who steps out of the crowd and takes a stand for anything has apparently earned the right to verbal abuse. It doesn't make it right, just legal.
So, there it is. I made a mistake. It is entirely possible that Mr. Bumble was right and " the law is an ass," but the precedent is here.
For the record, I also had Murray State in the Final Four. Please don't tell my sports bar buddies.
