Time for term limits

DEAR EDITOR:

As this country moves ever closer to Election Day, we will be voting for our leaders in our counties, cities, states and our nation. Please consider this opinion of mine before you pull the lever for your candidates of choice.

My opinion is if we had one simple law applied to every election in our country, it would address the root cause of the problems that have devastated this country and put this country on the fast track back to prosperity.

That law is to outlaw the re-election of anyone. Period.

No one should ever be re-elected again. They can be elected again, just not re-elected. Until we finally get a “Term Limits Law”, we must be careful who we re-elect.

Just about every problem we have is because of what a corrupt politician did while intoxicated by the power of government and the power he gets from his virtually guaranteed re-election.

That power corrupts him. It corrupts everyone that is elected. It would corrupt you if you were elected. It would corrupt me. No one is immune.

Look at our own government here in Cherokee County. They have all been corrupted by their power.

Commissioners and mayors get intoxicated by their power quickly. They are like a president; they have supreme power over their respective little “countries”. And like a president, never re-elect them more than once. (And like this president we have now, we probably shouldn’t re-elect them at all!)

If you ever decide to re-elect one, be extremely careful. Their power overwhelms them and their integrity disappears fast.

Sheriffs are worse; they are given extreme power because of Georgia’s screwed up sheriff’s laws. Georgia sheriffs have made national news for their crimes many times.

We have at least two Georgia sheriffs in jail right now and the DeKalb sheriff is in jail for murdering another sheriff! Be careful if you ever even think about re-electing a sheriff and never re-elect them twice. Two terms tops.

Lawmakers are a little different. Until our lawmakers finally pass a law that outlaws their own re-election or at least puts powerful limits on re-elections, I’m afraid we’ll have to continue to re-elect our good guys.

If we don’t, the liberal side of this country, which loves limitless government, would really gain power by our self-imposed re-election limit on ourselves. Just be sure your lawmaker is really “a good guy”.

So until we get this law to restrict our politicians’ abilities to be re-elected forever, be careful before you re-elect any one of them. For some, it only takes one term and they are bad drunk.

I agree completely. I am absolutely convinced that without term limits on all levels of government we will lose our Republic. The Founders never intended that a permanent political class would rule over a democracy. We absolutely must demand or even take this issue and establish term limits across the board and across the USA. If we must march in the streets and whatever it is needed we must break the political class and it's power. Term Limits to Save America!
