As tempting as it is to question the abilities of a mind reader who couldn't see the General Services Administration scandal coming, I have other questions about the abilities of bureaucrats who can't control themselves.

First of all, this was the GSA. These are the folks who approve (or not) the contracts for the government to spend our money. Do you see where I'm going with this?

Is there any reason to believe that the agencies of the federal government have any more self-control than the agency that controls their spending? I tend to doubt it.

Let's put it this way, if you owned a bank and, all of a sudden, Hank, the guard, is taking vacations to Paris, Tahiti, and Disney World, what would you think? Great money management and retirement planning, or maybe that Hanky was into some panky?

So the next time some big government mouthpiece is on TV telling you that we can't balance the budget by cutting wasteful spending, just sum it up in three little letters, GSA...Government Spending Aimlessly, and remember the 822,000 reasons why you know that this statement is just not so.
