Police on Tuesday and Wednesday arrested Michael Harley Taylor, 45, Larry Dustin Wright, 25, Stephen Anthony Mercer, 35, and Daniel Levi Lewis, 24, all of Canton, in connection to thefts police believe have occurred in recent weeks inside the city limits.
Taylor has been charged with two counts of felony theft by taking, one count of misdemeanor theft by taking, and three counts of criminal trespass unlawful purpose while Wright faces two counts of felony theft by taking and two counts of criminal trespass unlawful purpose.
Both Lewis and Mercer have each been charged with one count of felony theft by taking and one count of criminal trespass unlawful purpose.
Police did not want to identify the businesses because they say the latest round of thefts came after news of a similar theft at Morrison Products in Canton.
Morrison Products, which is in the Canton-Cherokee Industrial Park, was hit earlier this month, and police made an arrest in that case last week.
The growing problem has led local companies to eye stronger security measures and to make sure a close eye is kept on facilities when they are closed.
All four men in the latest round of arrests were in jail at press time at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with bonds ranging from $8,000 to more than $17,000.
Mercer was released from prison in February and has a hold through the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Parole.
Canton detectives continue to follow up with leads in the case and anyone with information is asked to call the department at (770) 720-4883.
