Downtown businesses and restaurants are planning a themed event citywide with music and specials to celebrate and showcase all Woodstock has to offer, said Kyle Bennett, director of tourism and Visitors Center operations.
As many as 3,000 people are expected to pour into downtown Woodstock for the event, Bennett said, and the number could go even higher with the nice weather that is expected for the event.
A mariachi band will stroll around downtown Woodstock performing, he said. Additional musicians will be performing on the sidewalks during the event.
“This is the third year we have done this theme, it is always a lot of fun to see the mariachi band giving very authentic music,” he said. “Another thing that makes it fun, lots of restaurants have Mexican style food and drink specials. It is just a great event to attend.”
PURE Taqueria will have Ian Schmacher live at 7 p.m. on its rooftop, and will be featuring beer specials for the Cinco de Mayo weekend Friday and Saturday.
Roomscapes Gallery and Heartworks Studio will have live music by local favorite Blaine Steven Lusk. Shawn Mcleod will be making sangria for Cuatro de Mayo.
Frog Imports will offer Mexican style snacks in the store.
FoxTale Book Shoppe will feature live music in front of the store and will also have a book launch party for debut novelist Kimberly Brock. Her new book, “The River Witch,” has received accolades from authors, such as Joshilyn Jackson and Terry Kay, and the owners of FoxTale recommend it for lovers of good Southern fiction.
At Seven Arrows Gallery, anyone wearing a sombrero will get 10 percent off their total sale and Mexican style refreshments will be served.
Cupcakelicious will feature live music in front of their store. They will also have a face painter for the kids, door prizes and specialty cupcake flavors for the celebration.
Main Street Woodstock will have a table selling the official 2012 Friday Night Live series T-shirt, and the Woodstock Visitors Center will be hosting game night in the historic setting of Dean’s Store.
“If you make a purchase, for every $10 you spend at a downtown business during Friday Night Live can enter you into a drawing for a $100 Downtown Dollars Gift Certificate.” Bennett said. “Just bring your receipt for any purchase made to the Woodstock Visitors Center to enter the contest.”
