The Cherokee Farm Bureau has announced it will continue its sponsorship of Cherokee Fresh Market, the community-oriented local market at Cagle Farm in Canton this year.
Anyone can participate as a vendor and sell homegrown items at the market, which is set to open Saturday and will continue through Sept. 1. The market will be open each Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The Fresh Market will continue at its previous location at 362 Stringer Road in Canton under the big yellow tent at Cagle’s Family Farm, a local family farm operation.
The Cagles not only provides the space, but family members also sell items from the farm at the Cherokee Fresh Market.
In addition, there are farm tours on the second and fourth Saturdays every month timed to coincide with the market, so families can come out and enjoy what the farm has to offer and then take a piece of it home, organizers say.
Cherokee Farm Bureau, in its mission to support local agriculture, sponsors the event, and vendors may participate at no charge.
While everyone must comply with Department of Agriculture regulations, it’s easy for just about anyone to sell items from their own home gardens or share the products of Georgia-grown produce such as jams, jellies or breads, said Jarrad Chambers, event organizer.
Organizers are planning weekly special events that will include a beginning gardener’s workshop on the opening day Saturday, a beekeeping introduction on June 16, and various other events familiar from years past, including tractor day and pie day.
