The U.S. Postal Service is in the process of implementing a ZIP code realignment for approximately 1,104 residential and 80 business customers who currently have a 30114 ZIP code, according to a USPS news release.
The affected customers will have their ZIP codes changed to 30115. and the change will take effect on July 1, a Sunday.
Postal customers directly affected will be notified of their new ZIP code soon.
Michael Miles, Atlanta spokesman for the Postal Service, said the realignment will impact customers who live south and east of the Etowah River and east of Interstate 575.
“We’re giving notifications now,” Miles said Wednesday. “They will be given directly so (customers) will know if they’re in an impacted area.”
He said the change is being made to allow quicker delivery for customers.
“Realigning these ZIP codes will geographically join two delivery routes with others in 30115, allowing for a more efficient line of travel for letter carriers to service customers in this area,” Miles said in the release.
While customers may notify regular correspondents of their new ZIP codes, it is not necessary to complete a change-of-address order with the Postal Service.
“USPS internal processes will automatically update customer addresses,” Miles said in the release.
Miles said the Postal Service normally provides the updated maps, but said the new lines are “a little confusing.” Miles encouraged any customer who was unsure whether they will be impacted to contact him via email at email@example.com.
