Jean-Baptiste Huguens, 22, of Canton, David Leshon Jackson, 18, of Canton, Demetri Odell Maddox, 17, of Canton and an unidentified juvenile, age 16, were arrested on May 27 at the Hampton Inn on Transit Avenue in Canton.
Maddox has been charged with sexual battery and child molestation and was at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with no bond, said Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker.
Huguens has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession, sales and furnishing alcohol to a person under 21. He was released on a $1,355 bond.
Jackson was charged with possession, sales and furnishing alcohol to a person under 21. He was released on a $675 bond.
The unidentified juvenile has also been charged with possession, sales and furnishing alcohol to a person under 21.
Sgt. Stacy Bailey, spokeswoman with the Canton Police Department, said the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office was originally involved with the case because the girl was a runaway.
Bailey said sheriff’s deputies investigating the case located the teen in a hotel room at the Hampton Inn, which is located within Canton city limits.
Officers received the call that the girl was missing at about 4:30 a.m., about five hours after the girl disappeared. The mother of the runaway told police she had last seen her daughter at 11:30 p.m. the night before.
The sheriff’s department then alerted the city police to the investigation.
Bailey said Huguens allegedly picked the teenager up and brought her back to the hotel.
“He was the only one who had transportation,” she said.
Det. Rodney Campbell with the Canton Police Department, who said the teenager was an acquaintance with one of the suspects, added she was returned to her home the same day the arrests were made.
