CANTON — An Alpharetta man has been arrested and charged in a conspiracy to rob a restaurant in Canton.

On Friday, Canton Police arrested Tile Ceatrice McGill. He was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug related objects.

Police say McGill was targeting a Canton Zaxby’s.

Sgt. Stacy Bailey, spokeswoman with the Canton Police Department, said the department began the investigation of the suspected conspiracy by setting up surveillance at a home where McGill believed to be headed.

Detective Rodney Campbell with the police department said McGill was headed to the home for a “social encounter.”

Police stopped McGill’s 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix at 10 p.m. Friday.

During a search of the vehicle, police discovered two firearms in the trunk of the car and nearly an ounce of marijuana.

One firearm was discovered to have been stolen from unincorporated Cherokee County.

McGill is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with no bond.

Bailey said more arrests were possible.
