The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is celebrating Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month this June with planned feline-oriented promotions. The shelter is running two different promotions, adopt one kitten for $75 and get one free and adult cats can be adopted for any donation until June 30. Each adoption includes the first round of vaccinations, spay or neuter, microchip, initial flea and tick treatment, a sample bag of food and a free office visit with a participating vet. Lori Kekel, rescue and events coordinator for the county animal shelter, says the shelter has every type of kitten and cat up for adoption right now.
The shelter is teaming up with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (and the ASPCA’s online adoption partner, Petfinder.com) for the monthlong event.
The celebration includes feline-oriented promotions and the public is invited to come by to meet, greet and participate.
“And if they just so happen to meet that simpatico cat, that kindred spirit, our counselors will be happy to facilitate the adoption,” Kekel said.
“Kittens are everywhere right now at the shelter and they are having loads of fun playing together in our cat rooms but they would all really rather have their own person to curl up with each night to go to sleep,” Kekel said. “If you have ever thought of adding a fun furry feline to your life, now would be the time.”
During the month of June, those who adopt one kitten at the local shelter can get the second one free in an Adopt One Get One Free promotion. The cost for one or two kittens is the single adoption fee of $75.
Each kitten is leukemia-negative, initially vaccinated, dewormed, flea-free, spayed or neutered, and will be microchipped before adoption, Kekel said.
For adult cats, the special is Adopt for Anything, which allows an older cat to be adopted for any donation.
Each adoption includes the first round of vaccinations, spay or neuter, microchip, initial flea and tick treatment, a sample bag of food, free office visit with a participating vet. The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is at 1015 Univeter Road and is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.
