The Village of Towne Lake will be decked out with flags for the second time by the Towne Lake Optimist Club as part of its Avenue of Flags fundraiser.
Club members installed American flags in front of 75 residences in the Woodstock neighborhood over Memorial Day, one of six holidays flags are installed for a small fee.
Program chairman Marvin Glanzer said that as the initial flags went up, enthusiasm for the flag display spread from neighbor to neighbor as residents recognized a convenient, easy and dignified way to display their patriotism.
They will be putting them out this week once again.
The Optimist club is working to expand the program into additional subdivisions as interest in the program grows.
For an annual fee of $35, club members will install a 3-foot-by-5-foot flag in a yard or at a place of business on each of six national holidays throughout the year.
After each holiday, the Optimists will remove and store the flag until the next holiday.
The holidays include Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day and Presidents Day.
Optimists promote patriotism in their communities and support the development of youth to become good citizens.
Proceeds form the Avenue of Flags program will be used to assist a variety of local organizations which serve Cherokee County.

Yesterday around dinnertime I left a phone message for Mr Halloran and later sent him an email. No one has responded.
They took our money and did not deliver. It has always been very important to me to fly the American flag on the 4th of July. Well, there is none in our yard this year. Why? What a fraud! I am very angry.
