The Cherokee County Farm Bureau and the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Political Forum at 6:30 p.m. June 21. The forum will be under the wooden pavilion at Cagle’s Family Farm, at 362 Stringer Road in the Hickory Flat community.
All local, state and national candidates running for office in 2012 are invited to attend, said event coordinator Shirley Pahl of the Farm Bureau.
Candidates with opposition will have an opportunity to speak. Candidates with no opposition will be introduced.
“Candidate forums, like the one being co-sponsored by the Chamber and Cherokee County Farm Bureau, are designed to educate voters on candidates and issues,” said Pam Carnes, president and CEO of the Cherokee Chamber. “Actually interacting with candidates can provide an entirely different level of insight than simply learning about them through mailings and word of mouth. Getting to know the folks that could ultimately be serving on your behalf is vital.”
Those in attendance will have time to meet and greet the candidates before and after the forum.
“In 1937, the Georgia Farm Bureau, like any worthwhile organization, was born of a need — the need for a united voice for legislation and for a cooperative marketing of farmers’ production,” Pahl said. “The same need exists today after 75 years. Cherokee County Farm Bureau sponsors a Political Forum every year so our Farm Bureau members and the general public can hear from the candidates and decide the best candidate to vote for.”
Boy Scout Troop 465 will serve homemade ice cream. Organizers ask that those planning to attend call Cherokee County Farm Bureau at (770) 479-1481, ext. 0, to RSVP.
