Kennesaw State unveiled a new set of logos Tuesday, continuing the upgrading and branding of the Owls athletic department by athletic director Vaughn Williams.
The main logo will include a meaner, more aggressive looking owl, but will also prominently put the name Kennesaw State front and center. It is a change from the previous logo, which was just an owl head in a circle. Williams said putting the university’s name was paramount in an effort to make Kennesaw State a national name.
The change is the culmination of a committee formed by the KSU athletic department to discuss the current logo, brand awareness and opportunities for future growth.
“This is another step forward for Kennesaw State University to continue expanding and exposing its image to our community,” Williams said. “We wanted to make Kennesaw prominent. By using Kennesaw it draws attention back to Cobb County. We think that prominence needs to come out.”
In addition to the main logo, there will be secondary logos that include “the edgier Scrappy,” as Williams put it, referring to the university’s mascot, along with a block letter, interlocking K and S. The logos were designed by the KSU athletic department with help from Rickabaugh Graphics, a nationally-recognized deisgn company from Gahanna, Ohio, that has also produced logos for Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Marquette, Baylor and the Philadelphia 76ers amongst others.
However, the logos are not the only things being altered. Scrappy will have a new uniform to perform in at events and he may also get a facelift to imitate the stronger logo appearance.
The new logo merchandise was made available Tuesday online through KSUOwls.com and can be purchased at the Kennesaw State bookstore, Walmart at Chastain Meadows and thorugh College Station beginning today.
Williams said it was the perfect time to change the logo because the university it about to enter into a new agreement with Adidas as the new athletic apparel provider, and there are plenty of official licencees, 61 in all, that are anxious to get the new logo and put their products in the marketplace.
