The Athens Banner-Herald reports that UGA intends to convert a hotel at the site into a residence hall which could accommodate about 200 beds.
The area is the former site of the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School.
UGA planners said Wednesday that the former officers’ club from the Navy school will be renovated to become a small dining hall for the campus. Workers are also renovating some small houses and apartments for use by visiting scholars.
The site will also house the Georgia Health Sciences University-UGA Medical Partnership as well as the university’s College of Public Health.
